A touch of the Florence vibe on show at the thriving Hong Kong Contemporary 2013
I’m delighted to announce that Washing Line _03, one of the 12 exclusive photos shown in Florence as part of the exhibit “A Sea of Awareness“, has been chosen as official image of the Hong Kong Contemporary Art Fair 2013.
A Sea of Awareness is a solo photographic show by the London artist Linda Lieberman, that I curated in the summer 2011.
A thought-provoking event, A Sea of Awareness stimulates the cultural debate on the threats nature faces every day, as well as the reflection upon the awareness of how our every day actions affect the environment. The exhibition marked the opening of a wide programme of artistic exchanges between London and Florence created by Future for the Arts: selected artists will be invited to show their work, enhancing the cultural bonds between arts institutions and creative people from the 2 countries.
Scottish photographer Linda Lieberman’s solo show explores and stimulates social, economic and environmental sustainability towards more respectful and environmentally-aware behaviour. Linda creates intense black and white sculpture-like images peering into the indissoluble bond between nature and man, drawing inspiration from the constant climate change and the dramatic challenges nature faces.
Her work focuses on our careless use of natural resources and common goods, specifically water, where life began and whose waste is threatening our planet as well as our future.
Woman is sea and the sea is woman: Linda photographs woman as the sea, the softness of the sea foam, the curves of the waves, the jagged edges of fish become one with the body of a woman. She shows us the special relationship between the sea and woman. Woman is the creator of life, the feeder of the world, the comforter – she gives and gives and gives, just as the sea is evolution, giving generously and unendingly.
The second edition of the up-and-coming Hong Kong Contemporary 2013 will be launched on May 24th 2013, concurrently with Art Basel Hong Kong and Christie’s Auction, drawing collectors, critics, curators and gallerists from all over the world to Hong Kong.
Hong Kong Contemporary is a premier art fair that offers visitors an intimate experience with original artworks, showcasing the best international contemporary art at different price ranges to suit all buyers. Due to the success of the concept inaugurated last year, the fair will once again take place in the tastefully furnished Excelsior Hotel suites, converted into art galleries for visitors to feel as close as possible to the artworks. The second edition will also explore the relationship between art and environmental issues through a special performance by French artist Niko de la Faye.
In recent years, the Hong Kong art market has developed and risen dramatically, seizing the attention of the global art community. Many worldwide renowned art fairs and auction houses, such as Christie’s and Art Basel, have started to establish themselves in this newly emerging city of art.
